Strengthening Customer Loyalty

Compiled by Julie Yamada

We all know the power of the “word of mouth” advertising by families currently part of your ECE program. They chose your program for various reasons and one thing to remember as you think about marketing is to start with your current customers. They are your greatest asset, and coming up with creative ways to improve their satisfaction with your program is something to consider.  You want them to continue to enroll their children but most importantly, enthusiastically share about your program in the community and to their friends and family.

Teamwork
Work with your team to decide how you will:
  • Ensure parents receive current information on improvements being made.
  • Share about special events as a whole school and in each classroom.
  • Build relationships with families.
  • Develop strong two-way communication with parents. (Daily feedback, parent/teacher conferences, newsletters, website updates, social media, etc.)
  • Show appreciation for your customers. (Complimentary parent’s night out, movie night, etc.)
  • Host a parent advisory board. (To help with fundraising, share ideas to improve the program and facilities, etc.)
  • Invite parents to volunteer in the program. (Sharing their skills, hobbies, etc.)
Showing Customer Appreciation
Current parents (customers) seem happy with your program  but be thinking of things that you can do to go above and beyond. Here are a few examples of experiences that other ECE programs have used to show customer appreciation:
  • Offer parents hot drink in a to-go cup with your logo on it every morning.
  • Mail a birthday card to each enrolled child signed by the director and teacher.
  • Organize a pet parade and families can bring their pets to the park for the parade.
  • Give families a tuition discount for referring another family who starts in the ECE program.
  • Have a Mother's day and Father's day light breakfast for parent and child to enjoy together.
Developing a plan to for customer satisfaction will help strengthen their loyalty to the ECE program. It will take not only the director but the whole staff working together to work on strategies to demonstrate customer appreciation. Plan on ways to keep the families engaged and interested in what your program is all about.

ECE Directors' Workshop 2024
The ECE director's workshop will be October 22-23, 2024 at the Ontario CA Convention Center. It was decided that this year the Union office would not pursue a hotel contract. Check with your local conference office to see if they will be making arrangements or if you need to make our own hotel arrangements.
Be on the look out for more information on the amount the Union will cover for hotel. This is the year each local conference will work with directors to help cover travel.

ECE Professional Learning Community (PLC)
At the ECE director's workshop in the Fall many of you were interested in being part of an ECE Professional Learning Community (PLC) where we will learn, share, and discuss various topics dealing with administration issues. Be on the look out for an email with more information and date for our first PLC.
